Darren P. Lombard is the Clerk of Criminal District Court for Orleans Parish and President of the Board of Election Supervisors, where he brings decades of experience, a reputation for fairness, and a passion for public service. A lifelong New Orleanian, Darren was born and raised in Algiers, graduated from O.P. Walker High School, and earned his degree from the University of New Orleans.
His public service career began as a deputy clerk under the Morrell administration, where he helped coordinate citywide elections in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. In 2012, he was elected Clerk of Second City Court and later elected Clerk of Criminal District Court in 2021, officially taking office in May 2022. Today, Darren is leading one of the most ambitious modernization efforts in the history of Louisiana’s criminal court system.
Under his leadership, the Clerk’s Office secured funding to fully digitize criminal court records, launching “Clerk Connect” to allow attorneys, journalists, and the public to file and track cases online. He is overseeing the transition of decades of paper records into a searchable digital archive, with cases dating back to the 1930s now just a click away. His office became the first in Louisiana to adopt secure cloud-based operations, ensuring critical court services can continue even during hurricanes or other emergencies.
Darren has also led reforms to strengthen public safety and justice. He eliminated 48-hour delays in processing protective orders, improving response times for domestic violence cases. His team improved evidence handling through new tracking systems and tighter chain-of-custody protocols, and has worked across agencies to speed up criminal case processing.
As an elections official, Darren has maintained one of the strongest records for integrity and voter access in the state. He continues to advocate for expanded early voting options, vote-anywhere-in-your-parish technology, and secure ballot machines with paper backups to protect every vote.
A proud advocate for economic opportunity and equity, Darren increased staff pay in the Clerk’s Office, improved benefits, and expanded hiring opportunities for returning citizens. He remains committed to building a workforce that reflects the community it serves.
Beyond the office, Darren is known for his consistent presence in the community. He supports year-round service projects, including toy drives, school supply giveaways, Thanksgiving dinners, and local civic events. He has removed unnecessary fees for public records access and believes government should always be transparent and accessible.
Darren Lombard is a father of five, grandfather of three, and an active supporter of civic and cultural organizations across New Orleans. His leadership continues to bring modern solutions and community-centered progress to the Clerk’s Office—and to the people of Orleans Parish.
